It is with great sadness that Save the Children confirms that four of our staff members lost their lives in a tragic road traffic accident in Cambodia on Friday June 22, 2018. A further four of our staff are also in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and others have received care and been discharged.
This is a truly heart-breaking event and our condolences go out to the families of the deceased and injured. Our primary concern is for the families, and we are providing support to help them through this incredibly difficult time. We are also supporting our staff, many of whom have been devastated by this tragic and sudden loss.
Save the Children in Cambodia reaches over three million children in Cambodia through our programs in Education, Child Protection, Child Poverty, Child Rights Governance, and Health and Nutrition, reaching some of the poorest and most vulnerable children. We are incredibly proud of the work that our team in Cambodia does to make a real difference to the lives of so many Cambodian children and we are deeply saddened by this tragic incident.
We are ensuring that all of our team members get the best medical treatment and care possible, and will do everything we can to support the grieving families, friends and colleagues in this tragedy. At present we have no further information to release and ask that the victim’s families and our staff are given privacy at this deeply upsetting time.
